Microservices vs. monoliths

Get to know Manuela Lorber (Senior Project Manager, Berlin office), written by Bea Kowol.

On board since December 2018, we can’t imagine Manuela Lorber, not being part of our Berlin Professional Services Team any longer. As Senior Project Manager, she and her teams rock complex web projects for renowned customers, especially in the publishing industry. Time for a short interview – time for seven questions to our Avenga colleague!

Manuela, you are a remarkable woman who thinks outside the box: Which stations have shaped you the most so far?

Definitely the city of Berlin. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years and it’s never been boring. During my studies, I worked at the bar of the Kino International, particularly during the Berlinale. This was the time I met many celebrities and Berlin “originals”. Through such a job, you develop a special feeling for people, and this has been very beneficial for me in the project business.

Then there was my episode in the non-digital world. I trained as an alternative practitioner and founded a food start-up for local herbs with my husband.

What triggered your return to project management?

With our food start-up, we were simply ahead of our time and the food industry is rather more like a shark tank than a constructive playground. To be honest, I also missed working on digital projects. I have to admit, I am indeed an internet nerd.

What was the deciding factor for you when you chose Avenga?

The very well-structured familiarizing process beforehand and, of course, the dog-friendly office.

What is the composition of your current project team and what are you working on?

Currently, I am working with development and UX / UI colleagues on a concept for the renewal of an InStore App for an international perfumery chain.

What does work-life balance mean to you? How do you experience it at Avenga?

It’s great. The colleagues look after each other. For me, the boundaries between work and leisure are more fluid. I like to check my emails on my mobile phone early in the morning and then take the dog for a relaxed walk in the park.

If you hadn’t become a project manager, then …

A vet.

Hotel or Airbnb?

Both and… the main thing is I can bring the dog along!
